When the Undreamt Jars cape project began in 2020, we wanted every decision about materials and making to place as little burden on the Earth as possible.
Starting this way was incredibly important to us. We didn’t want to improve retrospectively or promise better choices further down the line.
We’re not fixed in how we do things and will keep listening, adapting and moving forward.
DESIGNED AND MADE IN LONDON: AS CLOSE TO HOME AS WE CAN
Manufacturing in London draws upon the unrivalled talent of the city’s fashion and textile industry. It also helps us keep transport-related carbon emissions low.
FABRICS
Our wool is expertly spun and woven in Yorkshire, England, drawing upon decades of experience with this brilliant natural textile.
Wool is warm, breathable, durable and crease-resistant. It is a natural material that is 100% biodegradable.
The wool sourced for the capes is 100% sheep’s wool, with no added polyester, acrylic or other synthetic fibres. No plastics, please.
LININGS
Our Tencel lining is sourced and printed by our neighbours in the Netherlands. The fabric is durable yet silky-soft, with a fluid drape. Tencel is woven from renewable wood sources using a closed-loop system that requires considerably less water than cotton or silk.
BUTTONS & CORDS
All our buttons, including the pocket buttons and backers, are made from corozo. Widely known as vegetable ivory, corozo comes from the nut of the tagua palm. It is an incredibly strong natural material, and we engrave each button.
Our cape cords are made from 100% organic cotton and are Oeko-Tex certified. The engraved metal ends are made from recyclable nickel.
PACKAGING & DELIVERY
Our cape boxes are made in Dorset, in south-west England. The paper and card used in the boxes and shipping outers are UK-sourced and FSC-certified. All are recyclable and biodegradable. We also use 100% compostable and biodegradable mailing bags.
Whenever possible, we offset the carbon generated by domestic and international deliveries through DHL’s carbon-neutral service. We use this for customer-order dispatches and our manufacturing shipments.
